First aid courses in Brisbane will provide you with skills and knowledge essential to assist a patient suffering from an Asthma attack or an anaphylactic reaction.
What is Asthma?
Asthma is a long-term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs. It is characterized by variable and recurring symptoms, reversible airflow obstruction, and easily triggered bronchospasms. Symptoms include episodes of wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. These may occur a few times a day or a few times per week. Depending on the person, asthma symptoms may become worse at night or with exercise.
What is Anaphylaxis?
Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction that is rapid in onset and may cause death. It typically causes more than one of the following: an itchy rash, throat or tongue swelling, shortness of breath, vomiting, light headedness, low blood pressure,and temporary blindness. These symptoms typically come on over minutes to hours.
What is being delivered
This course is a non-accredited course. Participants who have successfully completed this course will receive a statement of completion. The statement of completion will issued by A Training.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Participants must have a physical person to perform/practice treatment
- Participants will need access to an asthma puffer or placebo asthma puffer
- Participants will need access to a training model adrenaline auto-injector
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete an online assessment questionnaire. These are detailed in the sections following.
CERTIFICATE RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS
There are no renewal requirements for this course.
WORK PLACEMENT ARRANGEMENTS
No work placement will be required as part of this course.

- Performance tasks –
- Administer asthma medication without a spacer
- Administer the adrenaline auto-injector for anaphylaxis
- First aid for allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
- Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.
